The Greg Mitchell Effect - Scarlet v Blue Round 3

Coming off perhaps their best matches played all year...hard fought losses to Yellow and White (when we had 9 on the pitch)...Scarlet came into this match full of optimism that their fortunes could in fact be turning.Arriving at Monarch Park it was refreshing to see more and more players turn up as the call went out and the troops responded. By the time all were accounted for we were at 13.13 players!?!?!?! How the HELL did that happen!!! Did this mean we would actually have subs and be…See More

Scarlet v White shot in widescreen 16x9

Arriving at Pantry Park those of us on Scarlet where struck by the sight of a lot of players in white...I mean A LOT!As kick off arrived and two teams feeling a win was possible going into the match, the advantage was clearly with White as they started with 16 and we...sadly...had a field of 9. No matter if they had 5 subs and we were two short, we saddled up and gave it a go. Early on the pressure between the two teams was matched and while we enviably looked to the sidelines and the 5 subs of…See More

Scarlet v Blue asks: Do we really need a ref?

Scarlet v Blue round two ended exactly the same as game one did, with the same score and with convener Greg coming to play with us to make up numbers...hmmm....are we seeing a trend here? I'm starting to wonder...Does the addition of Greg automatically mean that the opposition with A) loose and B) end up scoreless.Well one thing we did learn, you really don't need a ref if the two teams are respective of each other. See, Greg put on the whistle and took control when it was discovered that we…See More

Looking to Iggy Pop for inspiration

It's a good thing that there has been a week between games as Portugal needs all the time they can to get over their defeat...nee...slaughter at the hands of Spain. Coming off a strong performance vs Yellow Brazil, Portugal went into this with great optimism and spark but the game was quickly defined by a flurry of quick goals from Spain as Portugal tried to make up the numbers on the pitch. Mind you the sun in the eyes, own goal, and dropped goal didn't help either.Ultimately the match can…See More

"Great write up Rob! Love it. It seems the Scarlett is beginning to find it's form. I like the you also noted the assist to the goal.  I have other teams ask why we are not keeping assists.... ;)   my best, hans"

The Battle for "Little Portugal"

When the OLD draw was made back in May, the one game everyone circled in June was the Portugal V Brazil (in traditional Yellow, apologies to the Blue team) match at Monarch Park on June 17th. This was the match that had mouths watering. The fans came out in numbers that can best be counted on one had to fill the massive stands at Monarch Park to see the likes of C Ronaldo, Nani, Raul Meireles, Silvio and more take on Kaka, Ronaldo, Robinho, Ronaldinho, and Dunga. This was bound to be a legendary…See More

Scarlet vs Black....or "How we didn't have a full team but gave it a hell of a go!"

Week three saw Scarlet, for the second week in a row, struggle to field a full team. With three players away this week we were lucky to get 7 out for the match which was somewhat disconcerting as the Germans came at us with about 14 players! Given the option of defaulting or playing 11 v 7, we took the default and then matched the teams with what players were available. Once we were up and running the match had some great flow to it and the game was never really out of reach though Black did…See More

Scarlet vs Blue...A Haiku

Scarlet v Blue Friday June 3rd at Pantry Park.Blue 4? 5? 6? - Scarlet 0 Scarlet V Blue was an appropriate game line as by the end, looking Scarlet (on our butts from being kicked) and Blue (from the bruises we took as a result of the beating) seemed appropriate. Still feeling each other out and playing with less then optimal numbers, Scarlet gave it a go against Blue who graciously lent us a few players to get the match underway. Rob from Scarlet was our player of game...the centre back...not…See More

The Marsh of St. Patricks

Game 1, Scarlet Portugal vs White Spain at St. Patrick's, May 27Result: 6-4 win for Scarlet Portugal  Kick off 2011 of the OLD League between Scarlet and White begged one question:Were we going to play in a marsh or was there a soccer field at St. Patrick's buried under that water? With grass averaging 6" high, ponds in the middle of the pitch and sponge underneath the feat, the word from George our ref was "Well...it's up to you if you want to play but there really isn't a soccer field out…See More
