TORONTO, by Juan Carlos Cordero. - The high temperatures supposedly dozed the players and nobody plays at their full level. However, the last week we have been able to watch amazing good soccer at high temperatures.

At Toronto Central Soccer League, on July 14^th, all the women played hard and entertaining kind of game, motivated for the great games displayed in 2011 Germany Women’s World Cup that at the end was won by Japan in penalty kicks after 120 minutes of a dramatic 2-2 against United States.

Only the first match at 6:30 p.m., was a tie 0-0 between Bulldogs and Thunder, but still striker Karen of Thunder showed her perfect condition running all the balls, as usual.

The second game of the night was very tough deal. The leader of TCSL, Genesis, has all the cards to win the match, but Celtics-dressed Ballers tie almost for 90 minutes. Its great and experienced midfielder # 31 opened the score, but Sarah of the white & green tied. So was little bit rough, with pushing with the hands and elbows, as well as with techniques on the ball by Costa Rican Isabel in the middle field and her Latin co-stars pressing Ballers. Only when their quiet but great Mexican coach re-entered the fastest player in the league, “Chai”, right at the end of the match, Genesis could assured its 18 points with 2-1 to continue at the top. It was a certain 1-1, but she ended up with the final 2-1.

The now second place and former leader, Toronto Flames, came very prepared for the final match of the day against Majestic, which in the previous week has won by a half a dozen margin. Lysa Edwards’s team has now 7 substitutes and all its best and fastest players – Charlotte, Sarah, Madison, Jamie, among others, as well as Lysa and Jody putting the order in the last meters – they did no have problem to win 3-0 with goals by Laura, Madison – who surprised the goalkeeper with a long distance shoot that bounced badly for the GK – and # 9 Kelly, who run all the field, playing defender, midfielder and striker positions. Toronto Flames could score many others goals, but her speedy striker # 7 lost at least six scoring opportunities alone against the GK. Tara, Cindy, and the technical Majestic players were completely overshadowed.

Now, Genesis leads with 18 points, followed by the Flames FC with 16.

And these next two week are keys for both teams to consolidate their positions.

At youth levels, also Earlscourt Park, in the artificial turf stadium, has shown great soccer. Yesterday, Toronto Eagles U-13 and U18 had home games against powerful adversaries.

U-13 Sporting, however, defeated Eagles 6-1, opening the score # 4 for the green and white stripped boys and Bermudez getting the 1-1 in the first half for Toronto’s team. Even when the blue squad has great players such as midfielder Buonaestella and Bermudez is fast and skilful in the front, Sporting had faster player at almost 40 degrees Celsius in the field. Numbers 7, 9, who scored twice, and 12 made the Eagles to sink. Afework, Farrell, Parsi, Noel, and Hammond could not contain the rival speed while Cruz, Ramirez-Thane, De Quintal and Scott tried to support the attack without fortune. The better ball control and exact passing of Sporting was enough for a half a dozen of goals, and it could be more. The coach, also, did no help making the right substitutions on time and it was a lot of frustration in the blue team.

In the second game, Toronto Eagles U18, dressed now in yellow shirts, has a very tough rival, Barrie FC. The visiting blue squad opened the score with a great goal by # 14 Judah, whose showed exquisite skills and had to be stopped with a lot of fouls. Barrie dominated the first half, with a lot of possession game, passing the ball to the faster strikers and skillful midfielders. However, they had only 11 players and not substitutes, and the second period was completely different.

With plenty of substitutes and energized by a couple of water breaks, Eagles have the ball almost the whole time and stroke the bar at least 7 times, while Barrie’s GK saved at least 10 goals with great flies when Jimmy, Joe and Jerome were almost celebrating. Costa, of Eagles, that started in the left mid-attacking side, was brought to a defensive role, where his tougher stance has better results. He was and the sweeper were able to stop the rivals, and at the ended Mark tied 1-1, with a goal set by Jimmy # 5, the captain, an amazing lefty player, for the # 444, that finally could score.
